TPK Performance Horses
I was asked to work on creating a design for a new business that involved buying, raising, and training performance horses. Their specialty would be Reining Horses; which is a type of equestrian competition where rider and horse execute a precise pattern of maneuvers mimicking those used on a western cattle ranch. This is what the client wanted to focus on.

Ideas
One of the most exciting maneuvers in Reining is the sliding stop. This is when the horse sprints at full speed and then on a loose rein, lowers his hindquarters to the dirt as his legs walk forward for another 10 to 20 feet sending dirt spraying up around him like the wake of a boat in water. This was to be the focus of the design.

Type and Color
Reining hails from the old west. I wanted the typography and colors to show that. I found a font that was bold, with thick serifs and had a rugged, worn look that gave a vintage western feel. For the colors I went with a burnt red representing the rocks of a western desert and paired it with the warm tan of a leather saddle and chaps. A light sand color to accent the others completes the look.
